In 2024, at Artep Gallery Association the approach to research and archiving the intangible heritage of the town of Șona, in Brașov county is taken further. This approach is carried out in partnership with Ștefan Câltia Foundation, the Village Association "țona Noastra", Monumentum Association, Renascendis Association, Soxen - KraftMade Association and Făgăraș Research Institute. It is co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration (the second session /2024, intangible cultural heritage area).
This year we are dedicating it to the development of the website of Șona archive, with over 3000 photos, materials and documents schematised, detailed and artistically curated, available in both Romanian and English.
Because photography is the most accessible current resource for capturing the present between 15th and 16th of August, 2024 we are organizing the photography workshop PORTRAIT - THE VISUAL HERITAGE OF A GENERATION, in Șona, dedicated to the children of the village. We are focusing on portrait photography to make sure the children of Șona can also leave their mark on how the present-turned-past will be rendered a century from now. The workshop will be coordinated by Laura Căpătână-Juller, documentary film director and journalist. Children will learn theoretical notions of portrait photography, correlated with field photography sessions.
Laura CĂPĂȚÂNĂ-JULLER is a documentary filmmaker, she writes and takes photographs for the publication she works with ("Allgemeine Deutsche Zeitung für Rumänien"). Since she moved to Brașov in 2016, she has been involved in the cultural life of the city, organizing and coordinating screenings and film festivals ("One World Romania Documentary Film and Human Rights Festival", "Les Films de Cannes", "KineDok" , "UrbanEye FF"). Laura has experience in working with children (she graduated from the German-language pedagogic high school in Sibiu) and has supported photography workshops with children between the ages of 4 and 16 for many years. Laura also tutors documentary filmmaking workshops for teenagers.
The photos taken by the children on the topic of family life during the workshop PORTRAIT - THE VISUAL HERITAGE OF A GENERATION will be printed in large sizes and exhibited in the village, in a unique collective exhibition, which can be admired by locals, tourists, passers-by starting the 31st of August until the summer of 2025.
On the 31st of August, the Night of the Museums takes place in the Village, and in Șona, for the first time, the Archive House no. 221. This is a space dedicated to local stories, where there will be a photo and document scanning marathon throughout the day and night. This initiative aims to encourage other village initiative groups to start their own archives and to promote the beauty and value of old photographs. We invite visitors to come with old photos from the village or from Șara Făgărașului to be scanned and to make a collective effort to identify the characters, in the spirit that has turned our Șona into what it is and the Archive House into an open community.
