Salon Corporel.
A different kind of debate on body politics
Curator: Daniel Neugebauer
Artists: Jasmijn Visser & Lantian Xie
The programme Artistic Residency 110, 2024 edition, ends with the research session held by curator Daniel Neugebauer in Iași. Present between 8th – 18th of October, 2024 in Romania, as part of the exchange of experiences developed by the Artep Gallery Association and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) and co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration, Daniel Neugebauer will also hold a debate dedicated to this year's in-depth theme: body politics and different artistic perspectives on this current theme.
At 18.00 on Thursday, 10th of October, 2024, , we look forward to seeing you at "Salon Corporel. An evening of investigations into corporealities, climate and corpses". During this interactive session, participants are invited to reflect on institutional and artistic practices related to the complexity of bodies. Curator Daniel Neugebauer, together with artists Jasmijn Visser and Lantian Xie, will address a series of questions such as: Where and how do bodies manifest? Is someone's luxury endangering some other people's lives? What is the anatomy of a power body?
Through an original lecture-performance presentation, musical elements and a gaming session, guests will give examples of how artistic research can shape institutional practice and how politics, mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion are reshaped by all bodies present (or absent) in a room, in a conversation, an institution or a state.
Jasmijn Visser works at the intersection of design and art. In his practice, Visser explores the ordering, aesthetics and narrative patterns of geopolitical cases and proposes new forms of framings of complexity. Her artwork often stems from long-term collaborative projects, such as Conflict Atlas—Geopolitics and Contingencies on the Malvinas/Falklands Archipelago, where she explored the writing of geopolitical conflict by placing the centre of the world on the Falkland Islands, in collaboration with Metahaven. Or in Serf Club, where she created an algorithm that generates a live movie by connecting 2500 live streams, along with automatic subtitles and music from the archives, in collaboration with PWR studio. Visser is currently completing her first video game, The weather has been cancelled, and is a fellow at the Rachel Carson Centre in Munich, where she researches media narratives and the aesthetics of climate change.
Lantian Xie creates images, objects, things, events, formulations, jumps, sudden changes, movements, exhibitions, books, working groups, jazz bands, motorcycles and parties.
